Marina Mahathir, a human rights worker and media personality and daughter of former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Mohammad, is coming to Dhaka on Monday on a six-day visit.
She would pay meet with president Iajudin Ahmed, chief adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed, advisers for foreign affairs, home, women and social welfare and health. Marina would also hold meetings with Noble laureate Grameen Bank chairman Dr Muhammad Yunus, BRAC chairman Fazle Hasan Abed and representatives of the civil society.
She would visit some health and education and microcredit projects run by Grameen Bank and BRAC. Bangladesh Centre for Development, Journalism and Communication (BCDJC) in a press statement said Marina is coming to Dhaka at its invitation to give a talk on a seminar on media and gender equity. Marina would also join some programmes on business coalition on HIV/AIDS programme of the UNAID and Asian University of Women (AUW), Chittagong.
Marina is a popular columnist of Malaysian English daily The Star. As a member of the National Women's Advisory Council she advices the Malaysian government on women affairs. She is also involved with service-oriented organisations like AIDS Foundation, Women's Aid Organisation and Sisters in Islam. Marina's 3R, a programme on women health, career, information and technology, aired on Malaysian Television has earned national and international awards since 2000. She is one of the most popular and influential bloggers of Malaysia.
